Meet the Maker: 4 Questions with Eliza Rose

Eliza is a Brisbane-based artist whose work radiates colour, joy, and a deep connection to place. We spent the day capturing her vibrant paintings in her studio, with her adorable dog Olive keeping us company. This shoot was about showcasing the creativity, care, and personality behind each piece – artworks that celebrate nature, community, and the spirit of home. Below, I’m sharing some of my favourite images from the shoot, alongside a few questions I asked Eliza about her process, inspirations, and daily life.

What’s your creative process or daily ritual?

My creative process involves getting out of the house to gather inspiration from the beautiful world around me. I head out with my partner Sebastian and my adventurous little dog Olive to look around our local areas - travelling up to the Sunshine Coast, around Brisbane, the Gold Coast and down to the beautiful Northern Rivers where we come from. I take photos with my camera or drone and when I get back to the easel I try to capture the vibrant feeling of joy and peace we felt. I think people have a very deep connection with space and often identify with what I'm trying to portray. I get messages saying I've really captured what they love about a place and share with me their special memories - often really personal and also universal.

What’s your favourite local spot to recharge?

I love to recharge down at the park throwing the ball for my little dog and taking her for a bush walk. Fresh air and moving my body helps keep the creative inspiration flowing and I can come back to my painting with a fresh eye.

How do you find balance in your life or business?

Hmm. There's not too much balance in my life or business, to be honest! I find being forced into a routine with my dog helps me have some time away from the desk every afternoon, otherwise I might spend all day and night there! I do try to reserve weekends for roaming around and inspiration gathering where possible. The problem with turning a hobby into a business is that painting is my favourite thing to do and it's hard to take a break!

What’s inspiring you lately?

I'm very inspired by messages I get from followers online, letting me know their favourite places they'd love to see painted. I tend to spend a lot more time inside working than outside exploring, so it's really giving me a long list of beautiful spots to visit and be inspired by.
