Demonstration of the Lightroom App - Camera

If you’ve ever joined one of my photography classes or webinars you’ll know that I recommend those who are shooting with a smartphone use the Lightroom App. The Lightroom camera allows you loads of manual controls, and today I’m going to walk you through how to use it in the video below!

The lightroom app is made by Adobe which is industry standard for photography. If you are just using the basic version of the app it is FREE for both iOS and Android. Advanced features require a membership for around $15 per month.

Once you've taken your images, you can edit them within Lightroom app too - but I’ll dive into that in a future blog.

A couple of extra tips …

DON’T use the digital zoom

When it comes to smartphone cameras, image quality gets worse the more you zoom in. Try moving your phone closer to the product instead, or use a clip-on zoom or macro lens.

DON’T use the flash

The flash on your phone won’t give you the results you need. If you need more light, get it from your other light sources. Add a bounce card, increase the power on artificial lights, move closer to the window, etc.

OK, so there you have it. I hope this blog has been helpful and gave you some insight into using the Lightroom camera. In the coming months I’ll be doing a follow up blog on how to use the editing tools in the app so stay tuned for that! As always, if you create anything awesome please share your pics in the Facebook Group Photography for Makers - I’d love to see your work!
